STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The Big 12 Player of the Year, Oklahoma State shooting guard James Anderson, was the best player in his conference and in contention for the Naismith College Player of the Year award.

So, what does that mean for his draft stock?

Despite being named the conference’s best player, he’s unlikely to be the first selected from the Big 12 in the 2010 NBA Draft.

But don’t shed a tear for the scorer extraordinaire. Plenty of teams covet Anderson’s offensive abilities and he’s likely to be counted on in any team’s offensive attack next season.

After averaging 22.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, Anderson earned a reputation as both a skilled perimeter shooter and a scorer who can endure some lumps with his 6-foot-6 frame.

He has the ability to draw fouls and get to the free throw line, which will benefit him at the next level – that is, if the clobbering doesn’t lead to injury.

The question marks come primarily in the decision-making and defensive departments. Though both of those will likely progress along with age and experience.

He has already worked out for the Memphis Grizzlies (12th overall pick) and the Miami Heat (18th), which could be a good fit as a back up to Dwayne Wade, should he return. The Chicago Bulls (17th) also need a scorer at the No. 2 spot and unless LeBron James is heading to Chicago, Anderson might be the guy to fill it.

Anderson’s draft stock may depend on where Oklahoma City native Xavier Henry is selected. The pair is seen as the second tier of shooting guards – behind Evan Turner of Ohio State – and one’s landing spot will likely impact the other.

Expect Anderson to be selected toward the end of the lottery selections or just after – think in the No. 12-20 range.

Originally from Arkansas, Anderson’s recognitions are as numerous as his offensive abilities. It’s unlikely you’ve heard the last of Anderson.
