TULSA, Oklahoma – The Dallas Vigilantes were so close to picking up their first win in over a month. They led the Battle Wings inside of a minute to play, but lost a heartbreaker to Bossier-Shreveport last weekend after a game-winning touchdown and two-point conversion with no time remaining on the clock.
This week they host the Talons, who know all about losing in the final seconds. Tulsa has already dropped two road games on untimed downs and had to hang on in the final seconds to put away the Battle Wings in Week 9.
Dallas (1-7) stumbles into the matchup with Tulsa having lost five straight games. Tulsa (5-4) just saw its 14-game home winning streak snapped.
As painful as seeing their streak snapped may be, not even that minor sting can compare to the agony Dallas has dealt with in 2010. They lost their quarterback in the season opener. They had to replace their general manager. They’ve struggled on both sides of the football.
“They have a different coaching staff and different players (from the first time we played them),” said Talons head coach Mitch Allner. “Watching them on film, they’re a good football team. I know their record doesn’t really reflect that but they’ve got a lot of very talented players.”
Dallas quarterback Collins Drafts played well in the Vigilantes’ loss last Saturday. He finished 17-of-26 for 191 yards and a career-high eight touchdowns while also rushing for one score. His performance was a bright spot in a season full of downs in Dallas.
The Talons visit Texas Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
