OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City RedHawks remained cold at the plate and fell 5-2 to the Memphis Redbirds Wednesday.
One day after recording just one hit in the final four innings, the RedHawks (28-24) repeated the dubious feat. Chris Davis hit a triple in the sixth inning and was thrown out trying to turn it into an inside-the-park home run. Oklahoma City did not get another hit for the rest of the night.
The teams entered the sixth tied 2-2, but the Redbirds (29-23) took over from there. Allen Craig drove in a run with a single in the sixth to give them the lead, and Memphis added insurance runs on a two-run double by Bryan Anderson in the eighth.
The RedHawks never led in the contest, as Memphis took a quick lead with two runs in the first inning. Daniel Descalso drove in the game’s first run and then scored on a single by Craig to take a 2-0 lead.
Memphis starter Oneli Perez held the RedHawks scoreless until the fifth, when Kevin Richardson launched a two-run home run to tie the game. Perez was lifted after the sixth, and his three relievers combined to pitch three hitless innings.
Perez (1-1) earned the win, giving up two runs on six hits in his six innings of work. Omar Beltre (0-4) remained winless, surrendering three runs on six hits in six innings.
The RedHawks have now dropped the first two games of the series, but will try to recover at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.
