TULSA, Oklahoma – A week after dominating on defense, the Tulsa Talons have a chance to build on their best performance of the season AND pick up the first road win of the season this Saturday against Bossier-Shreveport. Tulsa is coming off a 67-41 stomping of Oklahoma City and hopes to continue the trend this weekend against the Battle Wings.
“Anytime you get a win like that, you build a little momentum up,” said Talons’ linebacker Jamar Ransom. “Bossier’s a good team and we’re going to have to bring our A-game. We’re ready to get the ball rolling on the road.”
The road has been unkind to Tulsa this season. After three tries, the team is still winless and searching for answers.
“We’re not going to do anything differently. We’re just going to go down there and hopefully play like what we did this past week against Oklahoma City,” said head coach Mitch Allner. “This weekend is just another tough matchup and a chance for us to prove ourselves.”
The Talons won the af2 championship in Shreveport in 2007. A win this weekend could help get them on the fast track to the AFL playoffs in their first year in the league.
“If we can go out there and win this weekend, we’ll have a 3-game lead over Bossier halfway through the season, at least in the division,” said Allner.
“That’s a big thing with eight games to play. To have a 3-game lead over any team is a lot. It gives you a little cushion and a little bit of breathing room in case we do have a slip –up along the way.”
The Talons are allowing nearly two touchdowns more per game on the road. They will try to pick up their first win away from the BOK Center Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
