MIDLAND, Texas -- Scott Beerer hit a bases-clearing double in the top of the 14th to give the Drillers a 5-2 victory over Midland in 14 innings Thursday. The Drillers used six pitchers while the RockHound trotted out four to the mound.
Bronson Sardinha led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a Ryan Harvey double. Daniel Mayora was intentionally walked to load the bases. Johnny Bowden struck out looking for the first out of the inning.
That cleared the way for Beerer, who delivered with a well placed ball to right. All three runners scored as Tulsa took its final lead of the game.
Stuart Pomeranz sat down the RockHounds in order to end the game. Sean Jarrett (3-1) earned the win in relief after pitching three scoreless innings.
Midland could not capitalize on a bases loaded situation in the top of the 13th. Jarrett intentionally walked the bases loaded with one out. He handled the situation perfectly getting a strike out and pop out to end the inning.
Tulsa could not take advantage of Sardina’s triple in the top of the ninth. Harvey and Mayora grounded out on back-to-back at-bats to end the inning.
The Drillers plated two runs in the top of the seventh. Harvey hit an RBI double and would later score on a passed ball to give Tulsa a 2-1 lead.
That advantage was short lived, however, as Drillers pitcher Scott Rice got into and out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh. Archie Gilbert scored on a single to tie the game 2-2. Rice would strike out the next batter for the second out but give up a walk to Josh Horton to pack the base paths. Rice finally got Alex Valdez to fly out to end the inning.
J.C. Holt crossed the plate in the sixth inning to put Midland on top 1-0.
The Drillers and RockHounds continue their series at 7:00 p.m. Friday.
