OKLAHOMA CITY -- Cody Reine hit a two-run double in the ninth inning as Oklahoma rallied to beat Kansas 3-2 in the Big 12 tournament Wednesday night.
Reine's hit allowed Garrett Buechele and Tyler Ogle to score, marking the third consecutive game in which the Sooners have rallied back to win.
The Sooners’ Ogle delivered a three-run homer May 23 to lead his team to victory against KU, as part of a three-game sweep of the Jayhawks. The night prior, Ogle hit a double with bases loaded to earn an 8-7 win over Kansas.
“The way we are playing right now, we are finding ways to win,” head coach Sunny Golloway said. “That is the most important thing this time of year.”
Oklahoma's starting pitcher, Michael Rocha, allowed two runs (one earned) and five hits in eight-plus innings. Kansas right-hander T.J. Walz allowed just three hits as he took the loss.
Tony Thompson scored the Jayhawks' first run and drove in the second. He walked and scored on an infield hit and error in the second inning. In the sixth, he hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Brandon Macias to score. Thompson pitched the complete game, something he’s only done this season against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
“This the only second time he has gone 120 pitches all season,” Kansas head coach Ritch Price said. “The other time is when he had the no-hitter in the ninth inning at Oklahoma State.”
Oklahoma tied the game in the fifth inning when Reine scored.
The game started more than three hours late because of a rain delay in an earlier game.
“What a great game,” OU head coach Sunny Golloway said. “It is almost a shame it was played so late. The fans didn’t get to enjoy what everybody else got to see.”
The Sooners will face the Baylor Bears Friday at 7:30 p.m.
