TULSA, Oklahoma – The first game night in Tulsa Shock history didn’t end the way the team had envisioned, but the buildup to the inaugural tip-off had the players taking notice.
“It was crazy. There was a lot of energy in the building,” said Shock guard Natasha Lacy. “It’s great to play in front of your home crowd like that. It can kind of be like a sixth man. We’re disappointed with the outcome but hopefully they keep coming back out and keep cheering us on.”
In order to get the crowd pumped up again for the team’s second game, the concession stands at the BOK Center may need to start serving coffee.
The Shock will host its second game of the year at 11:30 a.m. this Thursday against the San Antonio Silver Stars. Last season the Silver Stars finished 15-19 after allowing the most points per game in franchise history.
The Shock struggled on offense at time in the season-opening loss to Minnesota. They’ve tried to address some of their sloppy play during workouts this week.
“We’re working on moving the ball with a purpose and not just looking for the home run play,” said Lacy. “We’re got to play faster and harder. We scramble at times and it looks great because we will get steals, then we’ll gamble a lot and they’ll beat us for easy layups.”
Neither team has won a game yet. San Antonio lost its home opener 75-70 to the Atlanta Dream.
Thursday’s game is School Day for the Shock. The team expects thousands of kids to take in the game on field trips.
