HUNTINGTON, West Virginia -- The Tulsa softball team capped off a three-game sweep of Marshall with a 7-4 win Sunday.
The Golden Hurricane (31-20, 14-6) struck first in the top of the first with a Vanessa Vice RBI single to left field to bring Caitlin Everett home. Tulsa added another run to the total in the second with a Skylar Swanson solo home run to left. Samantha Cobb added two more runs with a two-run home run to left field in the top of the third to give Tulsa a 4-0 lead.
Marshall’s (24-30-1, 3-20-1) first runs of the game came in the bottom of the fourth on a Melanie Stoehr two-run double to cut the Golden Hurricane's lead in half.
Tulsa answered in the top of the sixth with a Cobb two-RBI single to center to bring Everett and Kelly Chapman home to push the lead back to four runs. Cassidy Bowen added one more run to the total with a solo home run to left field to extend the lead to 7-2.
Kalynn Schrock (9-5) earned a win for the game after pitching 6.2 innings and giving up four earned runs on 12 hits and striking out six. Katie Murphree (15-15) was credited with a loss for the outing, giving up two earned runs on three hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
The Golden Hurricane heads to Houston May 13 to compete in the Conference USA Tournament.
