OMAHA, Nebraska -- Oklahoma City grabbed its first win of a four-game series with Omaha 10-5 Tuesday.
After being hit by a pitch and stealing second, Esteban German scored on a Chad Tracy ground-out to give the RedHawks (16-10) a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Royals (13-12) tied the game in the bottom of the third on an Irving Falu RBI single to score Jordan Parraz. In the next at-bat, Marc Maddox singled to bring Jai Miller home and take a 2-1 lead.
In the next inning, an error by Omaha first baseman Scott Thorman allowed Chris Davis to score and advance Jarrod Saltalamacchia to third. In the next at-bat, Emerson Frostad hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Saltalamacchia and retake the lead 3-2. In the top of the seventh, Gregorio Petit sacrifice bunted to bring Frostad home and push the lead to two runs. Late in the inning Davis doubled to right field to bring German and Hernan Iribarren home and take a 6-2 lead.
Omaha closed within three runs with a Thorman solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to draw within three runs.
Brandon Boggs’ two-run triple in the top of the ninth brought Iribarren and Tracy home and extend the lead to 8-3. In the next at-bat, Mitch Moreland doubled to left field to score Boggs and push the lead to six runs. Frostad followed that with an RBI-single to left field to score Moreland and give the RedHawks a 10-3 lead.
Derek Holland (4-1) earned a win after pitching five innings and giving up two earned runs on four hits and striking out eight. After going six innings, Gaby Hernandez (2-2) was credited with a loss after giving up three earned runs on four hits.
The series continues at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday in Omaha.
