NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma softball team secured a series sweep with a 7-0 win over Kansas Sunday.
The Sooners (39-10, 13-3) scored their first run in the bottom of the first when Lindsey Vandever singled to first to bring Amber Flores home.
Michelle Gascoigne (7-0) kept the Jayhawks (19-32, 1-5) off of the board, striking out 10 in a complete-game, two-hit outing.
Both pitchers battled for the next five innings until the Sooners broke the game open in the sixth. With two outs, Haley Anderson hit a two-run double to center field to bring Karolyne Long and Dani Dobbs home to give OU a 3-0 lead.
In the next at-bat, Flores singled up the middle and advanced to second on the throw allowing Anderson to score. Two batters later, Vandever doubled to center field to bring Flores home and extend the Sooners’ lead to five runs. Wendy Trott came in the game as a pinch hitter and was walked with the bases loaded to bring Jessica Shults home.
Allie Clark (8-10) went 5.2 innings for Kansas, giving up 12 hits and seven earned runs on 12 hits.
OU closes the regular season Thursday in Denton, Texas against North Texas.
