TAMPA, Florida -- Just seven days after being selected third in the NFL draft by Tampa Bay, Gerald McCoy began his NFL career with the Buccaneers at mini-camp.
“It’s football. It’s a lot of fun, but it’s just another camp to me,” said McCoy. “This is what I do. This is my life.”
The former Sooner is having no trouble adjusting to the higher pace of the NFL because of the speed he played at while in Norman.
“It’s not too much faster, actually it wasn’t much faster at all because in college I was moving faster than the other guys,” McCoy said. “Once I get back into it for real I’ll be rolling.”
McCoy has already made an impression on his coaches, and knows learning a new defensive system is a process.
“Day one is day one and it goes how it goes,” said McCoy. “Coach [Tom] Wash said I had a good day, but it won’t come overnight, but by the time the vets get here I’ll be ready to go.”
