OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City RedHawks were on fire at the plate and coasted to a 14-3 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs Thursday.

The RedHawks (14-7) scored their first run in the opening frame on an RBI single by Chris Davis, but really blew things open in the second. After the lead-off hitter was retired, seven consecutive RedHawks reached base.

Brandon Boggs hit a double to start the rally, and Gregorio Petit was hit by pitch immediately after. The next five batters all recorded hits that resulted in RBIs, but none of them left the park. Davis and Jarrod Saltalamacchia – both of whom were recently sent down by the Texas Rangers – finished the string of hits with back-to-back doubles, giving Oklahoma City six runs in the inning and an early 7-0 lead.

Hernan Iribarren added a two-run double in the fifth inning to stretch things to a nine-run lead. The Zephyrs (8-12) responded by finally getting on the board in the sixth on an RBI single by Scott Cousins, but OKC extended the lead even more in the bottom of the inning.

New Orleans pitcher Matt DeSalvo walked three batters to load the bases, and a wild pitch brought another run in to score. Boggs then drove in the other two runs with a triple, giving OKC an 11-1 lead.

The Zephyrs added one run in each of the seventh and eighth innings, but the RedHawks again responded with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to finish the scoring.

Derek Holland (3-2) earned the win after giving up two runs on six hits and striking out eight in 6.2 innings of work. Rick VandenHurk (1-2) was given a loss after giving up nine hits and seven runs in just three innings.

Oklahoma City has now won four of its last five games and will continue its series with the Zephyrs at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
