MEMPHIS, Tennessee -- Oklahoma City won the first game of its weekend series 7-0 over the Memphis Redbirds Friday.
The Redhawks (6-3) got on the board first when a Chad Tracy two-out, two run home run gave them a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Matthew Brown hit a solo home run in the second at-bat of the second inning to add to the Oklahoma City lead.
In the top of the fourth, Max Ramirez added another run to the Redhawks lead with a double to center field to score Mitch Moreland and make it 4-0. Chad Tracy hit a line drive single to center field to score Esteban German, who stole second in the same at-bat, to push the lead to five.
Memphis (4-5) would pull pitcher Adam Ottavino (1-2) after that inning, completing his five innings of service after giving up seven hits, five earned runs – including two home runs – and striking out five.
Brown would cross the plate two more times in the game, once again in the top of the sixth on another solo home run and once more in the eighth after Gregorio German hit into a double play to allow him to score from third.
Geoff Geary (1-2) was the second pitcher to appear for the Redhawks but was credited with the win after going three innings and only giving up two hits.
The series continues Saturday at 6:05 p.m. in Memphis.
