STILLWATER, Oklahoma – The OSU baseball team used an explosive fourth inning to coast to a 13-3 victory over Texas Tech Friday.
The Cowboys (18-10, 3-4) carried a 1-0 lead into the fourth, when they erupted for seven runs on seven hits. The first two batters of the inning – Nico Rosthenhausler and Luis Uribe – reached on singles, and Dean Green loaded the bases with bunt single.
Dusty Harvard was hit by a pitch to drive in the first run of the inning and the bases remained loaded. Davis Duren and Tom Belza connected on back-to-back RBI singles, and the bases were still full with nobody out.
Dane Phillips drove two of the runners in with a single, and Kevin David followed with an RBI double. Rosthenhausler finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly, giving OSU an 8-0 lead. The Red Raiders managed to plate two runners in the sixth inning and another in the ninth, but the game was never in question.
After the explosive fourth, OSU continued to add runs in each of the next three innings. Phillips led the way with four RBIs, and a total of seven different Cowboys drove at least one run home.
Thomas Keeling earned the win after seven innings of strong work, in which he gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out 10. Louis Head was credit with the loss, giving up 10 hits and eight runs in 3.1 innings.
The victory ends a two-game losing streak for the Cowboys, and their series against Tech will continue at 2 p.m. Saturday.
