TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Tulsa Golden Hurricane softball team split a doubleheader with Wichita State 7-0 and 6-4 Tuesday.
Tulsa (20-15) pitcher Jackie Lawrence dominated the first game, picthing a complete-game shutout, giving up only two hits and striking out three.
Tulsa got on the board early, when Lauren Lindsay hit a two-run home run in the first to take a 2-0 lead. The Golden Hurricane added three more runs in the third inning on a Cassidy Bowen two-run double to bring Samantha Cobb and Lindsey home. In the next at-bat, Vanessa Vice singled up the middle to bring Bowen home, expanding the lead to 5-0.
Wichita State (12-19) pulled pitcher Kasha Kolb after two innings of service. She surrendered seven hits and five earned runs against the 14 batters she faced.
The Shockers took a commanding lead early in the second game, capitalizing on Tulsa mistakes. Wichita State scored three unearned runs in the first inning.
They added two more in the second to take a commanding 5-2 lead. Kiersten Dixon tripled with one out in the second to bring Lindsie Mitts home and two at-bats later Jamie Hull singled to bring Dixon home.
Tulsa pulled to within two runs with a Bowen solo home run in the first at-bat of the inning, but Wichita State retired three straight to end the inning.
The Golden Hurricane is back in action Saturday against Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
