AMES, Iowa -- The Oklahoma Sooners rode two dominant pitching performances to sweep a double header against Iowa State 2-0 and 3-2.
Keilani Ricketts kept the Cyclones (22-15, 1-3) off of the scoreboard in the first game, only allowing two hits and striking out 12 of the 25 batters she faced.
OU (29-8, 3-1) scored its first run of the series in the fourth when a Haley Nix single brought Chana’e Jones home. In the next inning, Amber Flores homered to left center in the first at-bat of the inning, giving OU a 2-0 lead.
The same bats worked for the Sooners in the second game. Nix provided the offensive spark for Oklahoma, hitting a solo home run to right field in the fourth. Two at-bats later, Wendy Trott singled to right center to bring Dani Dobbs home to give Oklahoma a 2-0 lead.
In the first at-bat of the fifth, Flores hit another solo home run to extend the lead to 3-0.
Michelle Gascoigne was lights out for six of her seven innings pitched, giving up three of her six hits and both earned runs in the seventh, while striking out 12 of the 28 batters she faced.
Kelsey Kidwell grounded to short stop to allow Amandine Habben home to score Iowa State’s first run of the game. In the next at-bat, Heidi Kidwell singled to first to bring Dalyn Varela across the plate, Kidwell was caught trying to steal second to end the game.
Next, Oklahoma takes on in-state rival Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
