STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma State won its first Big 12 game in its conference home opener 8-2 against Nebraska.
The Cowboys (16-7, 1-3) put three of their eight runs on the board in the bottom of the third on two big hits by Dane Phillips and Luis Uribe. Nico Rosthenhaus started the inning off with a single, and stole second to move into scoring position.
On the next at-bat, Phillips doubled to left to bring him home, followed by a Uribe home run to right to clear the bases and take a 4-0 lead.
Thomas Keeling was dominant during his time on the mound, pitching 7.1 innings, only giving up four hits, four walks and striking out 11. Ian McCarthy came in to relieve him and in his 1.2 innings struck out two and gave up two earned runs.
OSU added two more in the seventh on a Tom Belza RBI single and a Mark Ginther sacrifice fly to bring Kevin David home. The Cowboys expanded the lead to 8-0 in the eighth when Phillips and Uribe both scored on wild pitches during consecutive at-bats.
The Cornhuskers (14-12, 2-5) scored their two runs in the ninth inning. With a runner on first and two outs, Adam Bailey homered to right to put Nebraska on the board. McCarthy forced the next batter to ground back to the mound to end the game.
Oklahoma State and Nebraska play the second game of their weekend series at 2 p.m. Saturday.
