STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The OKlahoma State baseball team fell behind early on Tuesday, but responded to grab its first win of a two-game series with Florida Gulf Coast (14-9), 5-3.
FGCU took a 2-0 lead early when Zach Maxfield hit a two-run home run to left field.
After that inning, OSU pitcher Andrew Heaney retired eight of the next nine batters he faced and pitched six scoreless innings. Ian McCarthy came in to relieve him in the eighth inning, gave up one unearned run and struck out four of the eight batters he faced.
Oklahoma State took the lead in the next inning, scoring all four of its runs with two outs on the board. Dane Phillips started the scoring with an RBI double to bring Luis Uribe across the plate. In the next at bat, Kevin Chambers hit a double to bring Phillips home, immediately followed by a Dusty Harvard RBI single to bring him home. Harvard stole second to move into scoring position, and Davis Duren then drove him in for the score.
The Cowboys finish the series with the Eagles Wednesday before hosting Nebraska in a Big 12 weekend series.
