LINCOLN, Nebraska – The OU baseball team erupted in the middle innings and cruised to a 10-2 victory over Nebraska Friday.
Nebraska (11-10) took an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a Kale Kiser RBI double, and that 1-0 lead lasted until the fourth inning. Caleb Bushyhead tied the game with a solo home run in the fourth, and Max White added another solo homer in the next inning to give the Sooners (19-2) their first lead.
OU added three in the sixth thanks to Bushyhead and White again. Bushyhead connected on an RBI single and later scored on White’s two-run double. The Sooners then broke things completely open with five more runs in the seventh inning.
Bushyhead recorded yet another RBI in the seventh thanks to a throwing error, which resulted in a separate unearned run. Garrett Buechele immediately followed with a three-run home run to finish the Sooners’ scoring.
Zach Neal (4-0) was credited with the win after seven innings of strong work. He gave up four hits and struck out 11 of the 25 batters he faced. J.R. Robinson finished things off with two hits and four strikeouts in his two innings of work.
OU has now won four straight and both of its Big 12 games. It will continue its weekend series against the Cornhuskers at 2:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
