NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The University of Oklahoma’s Danielle Robinson was named as a finalist Tuesday for the prestigious Wade Award, known as the “Heisman of Women’s Basketball.”
The Sooners’ junior guard averaged 16.8 points and 5.3 assists this season, aiding in OU’s successful NCAA tournament run. Robinson is also in consideration for the Wooden Award and the Nancy Lieberman Award.
“She’s an unbelievable point guard,” teammate Amanda Thompson said. “She’s led us the way the whole season.
“She’s a born scorer, a born leader and I’m proud to have her on my team.”
The recipient of the 2010 State Farm Wade Trophy will be announced at the NCAA Women’s Final Four in San Antonio. The award is named after Lily Margaret Wade, who won three national championship titles coaching Delta State University.
“It’s such an honor, I couldn’t be more happy,” Robinson said. “You always have that dream of being a finalist and being considered, so I’m definitely happy about it, about the honor.”
Robinson and 11 other players are in consideration for the honor.
The No. 3 Sooners will fight to stay in tournament play, facing No. 11 University of Arkansas- Little Rock Tuesday in the Lloyd Noble Center at 8:30 p.m.
