NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Sooners started a 10-game home stand with a 4-2 win over the University of Massachusetts.
Sooner pitcher J.R. Robinson started the game strong, retiring nine-straight batters, including striking out the side in the first inning.
Oklahoma got on the board first, with a Caleb Bushyhead two-out solo home run in the bottom of the second to break the tie.
Chris Ellison did most of the work for Oklahoma in the third inning, advancing to second on a balk and stealing third. Jack Mayfield bunted to bring Ellison home for the suicide squeeze.
UMass put up its first score of the game in the fourth when Eric Fredette scored on a Mike Gedman RBI single to left field.
OU answered back in the top of the fourth. After Max White doubled to open the inning and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice, Cameron Seitzer singled to bring him home and expand the lead to 3-1.
Peter Copa started the fifth inning with a solo home run to pull the Minutemen back within striking distance at 3-2.
The Sooners added a bit of cushion in the bottom of the eighth inning whenWhite singled to left field to bring Ellison home to push the lead to two.
Oklahoma has one more game against Massachusetts Wednesday before starting Big 12 play Friday against Baylor.
