STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma State Cowgirls will take on Chattanooga Saturday in Tempe, Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Oklahoma State finished 23-10 this season and made it to the Big 12 semifinals before losing to in-state rival Oklahoma.
The Mocs made their way to the big dance by winning the Southern Conference tournament, finishing the season with a 24-8 record. Despite being a tournament team, Chattanooga is mystery to the Cowgirls squad.
“No I don’t [know much about Chattanooga],” said head coach Kurt Budke. “I know Wes Moore is a great coach. He has a reputation for having a well disciplined team.”
OSU star Andrea Riley has to sit out the first game of the tournament due to a suspension for a “fighting situation” that occurred during a tournament game two years ago.
“I’m not disappointed at all,” said Riley. “I have so much confidence in my teammates that I’m just going to be their biggest supporter and biggest fan I can be.”
This the third time in the last four years the Cowgirls have made the NCAA Tournament. OSU's No. 4 seed is the second highest in program history after competing as a No. 3 seed in 2008.
The Cowgirls and the Mocs meet up at 7:11 p.m. CST Saturday. The game will be televised by ESPN2 and will also be available on ESPN360.
