KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The Oklahoma State men never recovered from a huge first-half run on the way to a 83-64 loss to Kansas State in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals Thursday.
The Cowboys pulled to within four points midway through the first half, but the Wildcats closed the half on a 27-3 run. OSU made just one field goal in the final eight minutes of the half and went into the locker room down 51-26.
OSU outscored K-State in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the huge halftime deficit. The Wildcats’ Jamar Samuels finished with a career-high 27 points off the bench, while James Anderson matched that for OSU.
Anderson’s 27 points came on just 8-of-21 shooting, and the Cowboys as a team finished shooting 40 percent from the field and 36 percent from beyond the 3-point line. Kansas shot 48 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point range.
Kansas State also dominated the glass, outrebounding OSU 41-28 and pulling down 12 offensive boards. The loss ends OSU’s run in the Big 12 Tournament that began with a dominant victory over rival Oklahoma. The Cowboys will now be out of action until the NCAA Tournament; the national brackets will be revealed Sunday.
