NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma softball team beat North Texas 6-4 Wednesday. The Sooners improved to 16-3 on the season and are now 18-0 all-time against North Texas.
Linsdey Vandever hit her fifth career grand slam to put OU on top 4-0 after the first inning.
Mariza Martinez’s solo home run in the top of the third inning gave the Mean Green its first run of the game. Rebecca Waters’ RBI single cut the OU lead to 4-2 in the fourth.
OU scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Evan Sallis scored on Chana’e Jones’ RBI single. Jones would later cross the plate after Vandever drew a bases loaded walk.
Mallory Cantler’s RBI single and Jennifer Smith’s sacrifice fly added two runs in the seventh for the Mean Green. However, North Texas stranded two runners to end the game.
Vandever went 1-for-1 with five RBIs. Keilani Ricketts pitched 2.2 innings in relief to get the win.
OU will take on Utah 6 p.m. Friday.
