DALLAS -- The Oklahoma Sooners grabbed their 12th win of the season with a 8-4 win over Dallas Baptist University.
OU got on the board early, with a three-run first inning. Chris Ellison started the game off with a walk, and two batters later Garrett Buechele homered to center to put two on the board. Kaleb Herren walked in his first at-bat and Caleb Bushyhead came to bat next and drove him home.
In the first at-bat of the second, Danny Black hit a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. Ellison came to bat and flied out to center to bring Black home, giving OU the 3-0 lead.
The top of the third saw two more runs go on the board for Oklahoma. Herren doubled to center and advanced to third when Bushyhead grounded to second. Ross Hubbard came up to bat and hit a home run to expand the lead to 6-0.
OU pitcher J.R. Hubbard gave up his first run of the night in the bottom of the fourth when Jason Krizan homered to center. He gave up another solo home run against the first batter he faced in the sixth when Austin Knight put one over the left-field wall.
Hubbard was pulled in the bottom of the seventh in favor of Anthony Collazo after giving up a single to his second batter of the inning.
OU added two more in the top of the eighth inning on an Ellison single to right field.
DBU pulled within striking distance with a two-run home run by Ryan Enos. Collazo struck out the next two batters to close out the inning, though.
With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Ryan Bahmanesh singled to center and stole second to move into scoring position. Collazo walked Duncan McAlpine to bring pinch hitter Josh Wilson to the plate. McAlpine hit into a fielder’s choice and was thrown out at second to end the game.
The Sooners are back in action Wednesday in Norman against Houston Baptist at 3 p.m.
