Tulsa Player to Watch, Day 8: Thomas Roberson

WR Thomas Roberson

Background:

Roberson had a whirlwind 48 hours before National Signing Day. He committed to Tulsa in the summer, and then the day before National Signing Day he switched to Oklahoma State. But he had a change of heart once again and switched back to the Golden Hurricane on Feb. 3.

Why He’s on the List:

Todd Graham said Roberson was the Golden Hurricane’s “No. 1 receiver? with All-American potential.” A head coach usually does not offer that high of praise to a player that is not on campus, and Graham set the bar real high for the Union star.

Best Case Scenario:

Roberson lives up to the standards set by Graham. At 6-foot-3, he has the size to make an immediate impact in Conference USA. He comes from a winning program and will be playing in front of hometown fans. If he can deliver, he will vault the Hurricane offense back into one of the top-three attacks in the country.

Worst Case Scenario:

Roberson is used to winning championships and if TU has a repeat of last season it might shake the Redskins’ receiver. Losing is hard on every player, but when you have won two state championships in four years, it might have an enhanced affect on those who are not use to it.

My Take:

He will probably be the fourth or fifth receiver as a true freshman. He played at a high level in high school and there is no reason to think he will not do the same for the Golden Hurricane. He will probably be most effective in red zone situations using his height to snag jump balls in the end zone.
