STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- In a room full of people, David Glidden does not stand out in a crowd. However, he has done more than enough on the football field to stand out to the Oklahoma State coaches, who gave him his first scholarship offer at the Cowboys' Junior Day on Sunday.
“It was unbelievable,” Glidden said. “I was pretty excited and pretty shocked. I couldn’t be happier about it. I told them I was honored but I would have to talk it over with my family.”
At 5-foot-8, 160 pounds, he looks more like a golfer than Mustang’s star receiver, but in Stillwater he felt like a giant.
“My family and I went to lunch and the new offensive coordinator [Dana] Holgerson started talking to me and my brother,” Glidden said. “He sat down and had lunch with us. Then [tight end] coach [Doug] Meacham started talking to us. Then [Meacham] pulled me out of the group and showed me the coaches' locker room and coach [Mike] Gundy was there and he talked to me for a couple minutes. We left and then coach Meacham took me into coach Gundy’s office. Coach Gundy said they had an offer for me if I wanted it.”
“There were about 300 people there. I got some weird looks being the small white guy. I felt privileged that I got that special treatment.”
Glidden said he plans to take a trip to the Texas Tech spring game in April; however, things still look good for the Cowboys.
“I grew up an Oklahoma State fan,” Glidden said. “Everybody in my family is a Cowboys fan. My mom went there two years. My grandparents are Cowboys fans; I’ve never really heard them talk about anybody different. I just grew up in the atmosphere of it watching everything OSU.”
On a scale of 1-10, Glidden gave his visit “a 12.”
