TULSA, Oklahoma – We could see Conference USA history made Wednesday night when Tulsa hosts Southern Miss. With just one blocked shot against the Golden Eagles, TU’s seven-foot senior Jerome Jordan will move into first place on the Conference USA all-time blocks chart with 315 rejections. Jordan would break former East Carolina standout Moussa Badiane’s mark. Badiane blocked 314 shots in 105 career games from 2002-2005.
Earlier this season, the senior passed Michael Ruffin as the top shot-blocker in Tulsa history. Ruffin blocked 266 shots from 1995-1999. Jordan has blocked multiple shots in 16-of-23 games this season for a total of 62 swats. The only game this season that Jordan has failed to block a shot in was a 72-47 season-opening win against St. Mary’s.
Conference USA coaches selected Jordan as the 2010 Preseason Player of the Year, after making the conference’s first team last season as a sophomore. He is a two-time conference All-Defensive Team selection.
Defense is his specialty, but Jordan is averaging more points per game this year than at any point in his collegiate career. Entering Wednesday’s matchup, the senior is averaging 15.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. Jordan is coming off two straight 20+ point scoring games against Marshall and UTEP.
Game time against Southern Miss is set for 7 p.m. at the Reynolds Center.
