TULSA, Oklahoma -- Texas high school football coach Chad Morris is leaving Lake Travis High School to become the University of Tulsa’s offensive coordinator, according to a release by the Lake Travis Independent School District.
“The Lake Travis experience represents the pinnacle of my high school coaching career, and words cannot express how much I will miss the players, district staff, parents, colleagues and community members who have been instrumental in building the program into what it is today,” Morris said in a statement. “The opportunity to move to the college ranks as an offensive coordinator is simply an opportunity that I felt I should pursue.”
Morris runs the hurry up, no huddle offense created by former Tulsa offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who left after the 2008 season to take the same position at Auburn.
Associate head coach Herb Hand was the sole offensive coordinator and the offensive line coach for the Golden Hurricane last season. It is not clear what coaching staff changes will be made, if any.
Morris won back-to-back state championships and had a 32-0 record at Lake Travis in his two seasons as head coach. He has coached in six state championship games in his career, winning three titles.
