Bitter Bedlam Rivalry Goes Down to the Wire

NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Sooners prevailed in this season’s Bedlam, edging out the Oklahoma State Cowboys in overtime, 62-57.

The two rivals were neck and neck throughout the first half, with both teams playing very quick, sometimes sloppy offense.

Cowboys’ head coach Travis Ford noted heading into the locker room his team made too many fouls and weren’t taking the right shots.

Although Ford’s Cowboys started slow, Marshall Moses led the Pokes, getting 12 points and seven rebounds by halftime.

The Sooners ended the first half trailing the Cowboys by just one point, 29-28.

Tiny Gallon had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Willie Warren was ice cold before half, scoring his first point for the Sooners at the free throw line with just 5:33 minutes left before the break. He ended the first half with only 5 points.

The game began to slip away from the Sooners midway through the second half, as they forced shots and rushed their offense.

OSU’s James Anderson left the game after a collision with three Sooners. He later returned with just 8 minutes left in the game. In the meantime, Anderson’s absence gave OU a second wind.

Tony Crocker scored a crucial three to revive the team and fans as they trailed by 5 points.

Oklahoma regained the lead after Tommy Mason-Griffin dropped a long three, followed by Steven Pledger’s shot from behind the arch.

Some fouls from the Cowboys would further the Sooners’ lead, 52-46 with 1:45 left in the game.

Obi Muonelo answered back with a big three, his first points scored of the night, pushing the game closer to 52-49 with just 47.9 seconds left.

OU’s Warren made an uncontested layup, but OSU’s Ray Penn answered right back with a three with 17.4 left on the clock.

The Cowboys fouled with 10 seconds left in the game, and Mason-Griffin was sent to the free throw line, but he missed both shots.

The Cowboys’ Anderson drove to the basket, missing a layup. Anderson followed his shot and tipped it in with just 3.7 seconds left, tying the game.

The Sooners’ attempted to pass it down court, but it was caught by Moses, sending the game into overtime.

Moses scored two for the Cowboys, bringing the score to 56-54.

Mason-Griffin drained a three, pushing the Sooners ahead by one.

The Cowboys turned over the ball on the next play, OU’s Cade Davis recovering it, and drew a foul. He made one of the two free throws, making it a two-point game.

Penn was fouled and made one of his two free throws. The Sooners were up by one point with 1:45 left in the game.

OU turned the ball over, but a shot clock violation cost the Cowboys possession.

Gallon scored a quick shot, pushing the Sooners ahead 60-57 with 31.1 seconds left in the game.

With the ball in the Cowboys’ possession, Muonelo stepped out of bounds. The Sooners were immediately fouled on the next play, sending Warren to the free throw line where he made both shots.

The Cowboys attempted a shot from behind the arch, but it bounced off the back of the rim as the seconds ticked away.

OSU’s Moses finished the game with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Anderson scored 18 points and had four rebounds.

OU’s Gallon recorded 18 rebounds and 13 points for the Sooners, and Warren ended the game with 15 points and 5 rebounds.
