What you need to know...
Oklahoma is limping into the Sun Bowl, both literally and figuratively. The Sooners are moving All-American tackle Trent Williams inside to center, in order to cover for the injuries on the offensive line. Oklahoma split its last four regular season games and even though the Sooners are making their school-record 11th straight bowl appearance, they have lost five of their last six bowl games. But history is on the Sooners side holding a 3-1 series lead over the Cardinal.
Look for a heavy dose of Toby Gerhart. The nation's-leading rusher finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting this season. Standford enjoyed its first winning season since 2001, which was also the last time the Cardinal's made a bowl. Still up in the air is the status of quarterback Andrew Luck. The true freshman might play in the Sun Bowl after having pins removed from his index finger.
Who to watch...
Williams might be an All-American tackle but can he carry that talent over to center? The center makes all the adjustment calls on the offensive line and is partly responsible for the exchange with the quarterback. If any part of the adjustment calls or the exchange is off, then it could be a long day for the Sooners' offense.
Gerhart may have led the nation in rushing, but he would not have gotten anywhere without the offensive line. The Stanford lineman will be going up against arguably the best d-line in the country. Oklahoma ranked seventh in total defensive this season, and with a plethora of pro prospects, it will be intriguing to see if the Cardinal line can open any holes.
