TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa and Wichita State will renew their rivalry from the Missouri Valley Conference when the two teams tip-off a four-game series in the 2010-11 season. This is longest series in Golden Hurricane basketball history.
The four-year series will begin next season as Tulsa will travel to Wichita to play the Shockers on Dec. 21, 2010. Wichita State will be in Tulsa during the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons. The Hurricane will travel to Wichita in 2012-13.
“This is a great series for the fans of both Tulsa and Wichita, and for our basketball programs. The previous history between the two schools and the proximity makes it an intriguing series for both universities,” Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik said in a statement released by the university.
The Hurricane and Shockers have met on the hardwood 119 times before and TU leads the series 60-59. Tulsa, now a member of Conference USA, was a member of the MVC from 1934-1996. Wichita State is still a Valley member.
Tulsa has won 13 of the last 15 meetings. The last contest came in the 2004-05 season with Wichita State winning 71-66.
