FREEPORT, Bahamas -- In a game that saw 22 lead changes and 12 ties, the Oklahoma State women’s basketball team dropped a double overtime heartbreaker to Michigan State, 93-90.
Andrew Riley paced the Cowgirls with 44 points, including the squad's last 19 of the first half.
The Spartans took their biggest lead of the night at 47-41 with the first basket of the second half and led for the majority of the second 20 minutes. But Riley single-handedly answered with a 12-0 run to put OSU back in front at 63-60 with six minutes remaining.
After Michigan State retook the lead, Megan Byford’s offensive rebound and putback with 47 seconds left drew OSU (4-2) within two before Riley knocked down a pair of free throws to knot the score at 73 with 12 seconds remaining.
In the first overtime, the two squads traded the lead eight times before the Spartans took a three-point lead with a minute left. With the game seemingly in hand, Riley banked in a 30-foot shot at the buzzer to send the game to its second extra session.
In the second overtime, OSU took an early lead but the Spartans overcame the deficit and held on for the win.
The Cowgirls return to action on Dec. 6 when they host Coppin State.
