TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa Police are trying to figure out how 20-year-old Lakeith Roland got hold of a handgun that was once owned by a Detroit Police officer.
Roland was shot and killed by a Tulsa Police officer late Sunday, April 17, 2011 when, according to police, he pointed the 9 mm handgun at officer Adam Dawson following a police chase.
The handgun was traced back to the Detroit, Michigan police department. Detroit Police told Tulsa Police their department transitioned away from this brand of handgun several years ago.
Tulsa Police are now waiting on the results of an investigation by Detroit Police.
On Monday Tulsa Police said Roland was a member of the Neighborhood Crips gang.
