OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol wants to remind you to slow down and pay attention when you see a work zone.
You don't have to travel far in Green County to find those orange cones and barrels. While they can be frustrating, they can also be dangerous.
Nearly 20 Oklahomans were killed in work zones last year. Officials say it's not just the workers who need your full attention; it's for your own safety too.
"Three-fourths of the people that are killed in work zones are the drivers or passengers of the vehicles, not the workers themselves." Chief Kerry Pettingill said.
National Work Zone Awareness week starts Monday. So remember to slow down, set aside any distractions and give other drivers plenty of space.
