Oklahoma Father Charged In Baby's Death Says He's 'Sorry'

MIAMI, Oklahoma -- A Green Country dad facing murder charges in the death of his one-year-old son appeared in court Monday.

DJ Yates offered our cameras an emotional apology.

Reporter: "Hey, DJ? Anything you want to say?"
DJ Yates: "I'm sorry. I don't know what happened."

Yates was arrested Thursday, February 10, 2011, after his son Quinton was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The boy's aunt is trying to make sense of what has happened.

"He was a little rough sometimes, but I would never think he would do this to his own son," said the victim's aunt Jayme Schumacher.

"I have my own son and you can't help but think that pain and all of the trauma that child went through before he died," said Ottawa County DA Eddie Wyant.

The Medical Examiner still hasn't said how Quinton died.

Quinton's father has a history of violence. He was convicted in 2006 of trying to kill a Green Country man.
