EUFAULA, Okla. (AP) -- A McIntosh County prosecutor says Eufaula Mayor Dean Smith has stepped down after his arrest earlier this week.
Assistant District Attorney Crieg Rittenhouse told the Muskogee Phoenix on Friday that Smith "no longer has any authority as mayor." Rittenhouse says Smith has removed his name as a mayoral candidate and turned over the city's keys to Vice Mayor Greg Anderson.
Smith will be paid until April 18.

Eufaula police arrested Smith on Wednesday after receiving complaints he had been drinking alcohol and driving erratically.
Rittenhouse says Smith wasn't legally intoxicated but that a breath test indicated Smith had been drinking, thus violating his parole for a previous conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Smith says he's "got my own personal demon to get rid of."
