EUFAULA, Oklahoma -- Eufaula Mayor Dean Smith has been arrested again for driving under the influence of alcohol. Smith was arrested Wednesday morning in downtown Eufaula, according to Mike Rogers of KTNT Radio.
Police received a call about a city-owned truck that almost hit the caller's vehicle head on. Police spotted the truck driving erratically and pulled it over. Dean Smith failed a field sobriety test, was arrested and taken to jail.
Police administered a breathalyzer test at the jail, and Smith's blood alcohol content did not exceed the state limit. Because he is serving a deferred sentence, however, he was detained until he went before a judge at 1 p.m.
He has been ordered to remain in jail without bond until a further hearing on Friday. Rogers said that Smith complained of chest pain at one point, but an evaluation showed he was ok.
Smith got a deferred sentence on a drunken driving arrest in June of 2010. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence, transporting an open container of alcohol and failing to obey a traffic signal.

District Judge Thomas Bartheld, who gave the mayor a one-year deferred sentence and fine of $900, also ordered Smith to undergo drug and alcohol assessments.
Smith was also in the spotlight in 2010 for allegedly using his office to obtain about $200 by using a city credit card to buy gasoline and later being reimbursed.
