PORUM, Oklahoma – Classes at Porum Schools in Muskogee County have been canceled for the remainder of the week due to a high number of students coming down with the flu, the district said Tuesday.
Superintendent Rick Antle said 130 of the district's 500 students were absent Monday, and that number jumped to 196 on Tuesday. He says teachers and bus drivers also have been affected.
Classes are expected to resume Monday, January 31, 2011.
Porum isn't the only school district hit hard by the flu. Last week, Dewar schools canceled class after nearly half of its students came down with the flu. And more than a quarter of the student body was out at Stroud schools because of the flu.
