MULDROW, Oklahoma – The suspect in Monday's fatal shooting near Leonard was arrested in Muldrow Friday.
The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office says Steven Thompson Keeling was found hiding underneath a bed in a Muldrow hotel.
Keeling is wanted on first degree murder charges for the death of Ed Brown, who was shot to death outside his home Monday night. Keeling is also accused of shooting and wounding a woman in that incident.
"We had people telling us that this is someone we should look at," said Captain John Bowman, with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office. "And the more we looked at him the more we thought this is the guy who did it."
Late Thursday night, Muldrow police found Keeling's truck, but there was no sign of him. Captain Bowman said a deputy was in Muldrow checking out that truck when he got a call about a possible body in a local motel.
"Muldrow police they went in to check. And instead of a dead person they found our suspect Mr. Keeling, hiding under the bed," Captain Bowman said.
Bowman said Keeling and Brown did know each other and Brown might have known Keeling was after him.
"Whatever reason, may have been a debt, we've heard that. May have been something else," he said. "To the point we think he showed up a week or two before the murder and actually shot Mr. Brown's dog."
Bowman said the community should be glad this suspect is off the streets.
"This is a person that needed to be caught and the fates were with us," he said. "And everything fell into place quickly and he's no longer a threat to anyone."
Funeral services for Brown were held Friday at Bixby Funeral Home.
