We're tracking two systems for the next several days including the chance of some wintry precipitation Thursday across northern OK. The second system may draw near the area Sunday or Monday.
A few areas of showers will be possible early this morning as the short wave aloft moves eastward out of the region but this chance remains very low. A surface cold front will side southward early bringing gusty north winds and colder air back to the area today. Areas south of the boundary this morning will experience dense fog but as the front approaches the fog will mix out quickly. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s with morning clouds giving way to partly sunny conditions later today.
After a quiet Wednesday, the evening gets interesting very quickly with the arrival of an upper level system and another strong surface cold front. These features will combine to present a chance of light freezing rain after midnight Wednesday transitioning to all snow Thursday morning through afternoon across the northern third of the state. This system appears very similar to the last winter event that brushed the state. The higher likelihood for 2 to 4 inch snowfall will remain across the OK and Kansas state line area. Tulsa will again be on the south side of the system with an inch to near 2 inches possible. Current indications from our friends at the National Weather service point toward a Winter Weather Advisory event for the period. This means some impact to travel is possible but significant accumulations are unlikely.
The cold air will stick around through Saturday before another system draws near Sunday evening into Monday.
