Police: Man Who Pistol-Whipped Neighbor Arrested After North Tulsa Standoff

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa Police arrested a man after a standoff that lasted several hours Wednesday.

Police surrounded a home in 2300 block of East 42nd Place North about 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

"We try to do our negotiation and if we can get this individual to come out, for his sake and our officers safety, that's the better plan," said Officer Leland Ashley.

Police said the standoff came about after an apparent alcohol-fueled dispute between neighbors, which started around 12 p.m. 

Officers said 56-year-old Robert Lee Allgire was firing shots from inside his home.  Police said a neighbor went over to check on Allgire and noticed he was drunk.

Police said the neighbor then started removing Allgire's weapons from the home. The neighbor removed three long guns and a hangun from the house, according to officers.

Police said Allgire fell asleep and when the neighbor returned a few hours later, the two men got into a confrontation. Thats when police said Allgire pistol whipped his neighbor.  

The injured neighbor, who's name was not released, was able to escape and call police.  He was treated for his injuries at the scene and is expected to recover.

When officers arrived, they surrounded the home.  Dozens of officers, along with the Special Operations Team, were called in.

After more than four hours, police were able to talk Allgire out of the house. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident.  Police said he could face charges of pointing a deadly weapon or possibly assault with a deadly weapon.

"There could be a number of things that could go on with a person, mentally, little things can set invididuals off," Officer Ashley said.  "Still not sure what set this into motion today."

A section of North Lewis Avenue was blocked during the standoff. A Tulsa police helicopter was also dispatched to the scene.
