TULSA, Oklahoma -- This promises to be a very "techie" Christmas, with smartphones and iPads and other gadgets being the gift of choice for millions of adults.
But what about the golfer on your list?
How about a gift certificate to Golftec? It's a Tulsa business that uses computers and the latest technology to transform anyone into a better golfer.
"I see our task pretty simple as we gotta get people proficient enough to enjoy the game before frustration drives them away from it," said Pat Mctigue, a teaching pro at Golftec
To accomplish that, high-speed cameras in two locations capture your swing on video for immediate playback.
"Video alone can reduce the learning curve up to a third," Mctigue said.
But what makes Golftec truly unique are sensors that measure the movement of your hips, shoulders, and other body parts during a swing.
"We're gonna be able to measure the position of your body throughout the golf swing and that helps us in diagnosing swing flaws," Mctigue said.
The computer then compares those precise measurements to those of 150 touring pros, like Stuart Appleby. If your numbers are in green, you're swinging like a pro; if your numbers are in yellow, you may need work; and red, means you need lots of work.
"I'm not guessing what's wrong with somebody's golf swing anymore. We're going to get the diagnosis right every single time," Mctigue said.
There are 140 Golftec franchises across the country but only one in Tulsa. Pat opened it up in 2008
"We want to find out where someone wants to get to and are they willing to work hard enough to get there," he said. "Because making changes in your golf game is way harder than most people want to admit that it is.
Just in time for the holidays, Golftec is offering two special packages that will save you a lot of money off the normal cost: a 60-minute evaluation and one lesson for $199, and a 60-minute evaluation & 3 lessons for $299.
Golftec is located at 6010 South Memorial Drive in Tulsa or you can call them at 918-622-3968.
