TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Hawaiian Islands are getting ready for a Golden Hurricane this Christmas. The TU football team is headed there for the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.
It's been a fun ride on the gridiron for TU this year.
First came the win over Notre Dame, now the Golden Hurricane is off to the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.
"We've been able to keep it going and go into the bowl game with a six game winning streak," said TU Assistant Athletic Director Don Tomkalski.
The question now for Hurricane fans, how do you support your team? There are a couple of options.
Agents at Spears Travel are busy booking trips for the Christmas Eve game. "Mele Kalikimaka, it's a great place to spend Christmas," said Greg Spears.
They're offering a $794 package that includes a hotel on the beach and game tickets. Airfare to get to Hawaii can run another $1,000.
"It's a good opportunity to maybe spend a little bit more and get a hotel that's really going to be a great experience for you," Spears said.
Another option is to buy a ticket at home then donate it to a military member serving in Hawaii.
It's simple really, a $40 ticket bought on the mainland is given to a member in one of the five branches of the armed forces stationed in the aloha state.
"Our goal is to reach 2000 and we think with the holidays and a lot of military people that are away from their families that this might be something that will help their holidays," Tomkalski said.
To add to the Christmas spirit, Conference USA will match the number of tickets the school sells, so 2000 tickets can quickly become 4000. A nice gift from the heartland to the islands.
"It's a way to distribute some tickets and, hopefully, the men and women in uniform will have a great day and see a great football and have fun," Tomkalski said.
The servicemen and women who get the tickets will be sitting in the TU section of the stadium.
You can order a ticket by going online to the Athletic Department's Website. You can also call or go up to the ticket office on campus.
