Experts say forget the tangled strands of lights you have in the garage. New LED lights are the top consumer pick.

Running those strand of lights for a month only costs 46 cents. That cost triples with traditional incandescents. But that's not the only reason LED lights give you more bang for your buck.

"I believe the LED lights are richer in color, and actually have more brightness than what the traditional incandescents do. So energy savings, more money in your pocket, " Neal Johnson said.

LED lights are considered much safer too, since they don't heat up. That means fewer accidental fires and injuries.
