TULSA, Oklahoma -- A Tulsa Church that once employed a woman accused of child abuse is speaking out.

Meredith Howard worked at Kirk of the Hills Church in 2008 when an eight-month old boy suffered a broken leg during a Mother's Day out event.

Though TPD investigated the incident, no charges were ever filed. Howard was charged this week with assaulting a 19-month old girl at the John Knox Child Development Center.

The injury to the girl's genitals was so severe she required surgery.

At a meeting Thursday night with parents, John Knox claimed it checked Howard's references, including Kirk of the Hills.

But Friday, a spokesman for the Kirk said in a letter that the church was never contacted about Howard for any references.

The spokesman says they never received any official report about the incident at their church, only that charges against Howard were declined.
