MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma – A building with historic significance to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation will soon be back in their hands.
The Council House is a two story brick structure in downtown Okmulgee that once served as the capitol for the tribe.
Built in 1878, the building served in that capacity until the Department of Interior sold it in 1924.
Monday the Muscogee (Creek) Nation announced they are purchasing the Council House for $3.2 million and will re-take possession of the building November 20.
