Tahlequah Hospital About To Undergo Major Expansion

TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma -- The W.W. Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah is about to undergo a $7 million expansion that will add an additional 27,000 square feet to the medical center.

The Cherokee Nation held a ground breaking ceremony this week to get the project started.

The plan will include more space for the emergency room, orthopedics and optometry, as well as a remodel of 15,000 square feet of existing space.

"We have added new programs like radiology and respiratory therapy, and we have made logical and intelligent decisions to expand our space," Principle Chief of the Cherokee Nation Chad Smith said in a press release.

The 60-bed hospital currently uses 30 percent of the building for non-patient care. They say the expansion project will expand medical services and reduce that number.
