What a great time we're having this month! I'm so pleased at the outpouring of support for breast cancer awareness month! Everywhere I look, I see pink! At the grocery store, on billboards, at football games; it's PINK EVERYWHERE!
It's a great reminder to everyone that breast cancer can affect us all. Regardless of age, race, education or socio-economic status, we all are touched. It's most touching when I see young people get involved or guys show their softer side by wearing pink! The thing is, we can't slow down. While we're wrapping up October, we still must make this a year-long fight!
Early detection is still the key. The American Cancer Society recommends women 40 years of age and older, get in for a mammogram. If you don't have insurance, the Tulsa Health Department can help. Check out the Take Charge! program by logging on to tulsa-heath.org. You should also be doing monthly, breast self-exam. Who knows your body better than you? If you feel a lump, bump or something's changed, see your doctor. A lump isn't always cancer but it needs to be checked.
Celebrate October… celebrate life!
