TULSA, Oklahoma -- A Tulsa Police officer en route to a call collided with a motorcycle early Sunday morning, sending two people to the hospital. The accident happened at 5:27 a.m. at the intersection of Memorial and the westbound I-44 access road.
Officer Adam James was responding to back another officer when he entered the intersection of East Skelly Drive and South Memorial Drive, according to Corporal Scott Anderson of the Tulsa Police Department.
James drove through a red light with his emergency lights on and was struck by a 1972 Harley Davidson motorcycling going north on Memorial.
The motorcycle driver, 50-year-old Gavin Riggs, broke his right leg and had a possible broken collarbone, Anderson said. His passenger, 46-year-old Kaylee Grass, is believed to have dislocated her right hip. They both also had some cuts and scrapes, Anderson said.
Riggs and Grass were taken to a local hospital by EMSA where Riggs is believed to have had surgery on his leg.
Officer James was not injured.
One of the officers at the scene said there was some indication the motorcycle's headlight may not have been on at the time of the accident.
Anderson said the accident is being investigated by the department's Advanced Traffic Investigation unit.
